THE CULTURE OF THE 1980S

We all know about the 1980's. It was a time of (what seems now), ridiculous fashion, upbeat music, and conservative politics. But the 1980's were far more complex than that.  Basically, the 1980s were a decade when new technology mixed with a more traditional, conservative national mindset. With the conclusion of the Vietnam war, Americans were able to make more local issues their main priority. This general pattern seems to mimic that of the 1920s with the conclusion of World War I (15).  As a result, this decade developed an  inventive cultural style very distinct from the the times before and after it. Naturally, bits and pieces of what came about in the 80s are very present today; like pacman for example. The 1980s demonstrated a juxtaposition in culture and society, and a superficiality shown through economic carelessness and high spending.
